CLA offers quality Mandarin courses at all levels, including Entry (1,2,3), GCSE, A-level and Mandarin Chinese courses for special purposes (e.g. tourists, businesses etc.). For the majority of the interested learners, taking our progressive beginners’ program (Stage 1 to Stage 3) is an easy way to start off. (NB: “Beginners’ Program Stage 1, 2, 3” is nearly equal to “Entry 1, 2 and 3" in contents, despite that some contents can be more challenging.)
After completing three stages of the beginners’ program, learners will be able to converse with native speakers of Chinese on everyday topics in social or business settings. On the average, learners will have a command of 1000 basic Chinese characters, 200 essential sentence patterns and 3000 most commonly used sentences. Successful completion of the beginners’ programs will lead to the entrance of GCSE program or other programs at higher levels..
During the beginners’ program, learners will learn:
- Pin Yin, an alphabetic system created for the Romanization of Chinese characters. with the knowledge of Pin Yin, learners will be able to read Chinese characters accurately;
- Casual and formal greetings;
- Self-Introduction in social and business settings;
- Telling numbers and dates;
- Asking and telling the time;
- Shopping and bargaining;
- Telling the sum of Chinese money;
- Ordering food and drinks;
- Apologizing and responding to apologies;
- Making and answering phone calls;
- Asking for directions and locations;
- Talking about weather, daily activities and feelings;
- Introduction to Chinese culture and customs.
